Attorney General Masto Announces Former Correctional Officer Pleads Guilty in Corruption Case

June 5, 2013

Las Vegas, NV – Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto announced that Eugenio Dimas, 52, of Las Vegas, entered a guilty plea today to one count of misconduct of a public officer, a category “E” felony.

“Our office takes seriously any allegations of misconduct by public employees,” said Masto.

Dimas had been employed as a correctional officer at Florence McClure Woman’s Correctional Center. In February of this year, investigators from the Investigator General’s Office arrested Dimas after being tipped off about a relationship he was having with an inmate. The investigators then intercepted prisoner telephone calls between Dimas and that inmate at the prison which confirmed the allegations. Such conduct by officers is a violation of Nevada law.

The sentencing will take place on October 3, 2013 before Judge James Bixler.

The Department of Corrections Office of the Inspector General referred the case to the Attorney General’s Office for prosecution. Deputy Attorney General Karen A. Whelan prosecuted the case.
