Attorney General Appoints New Members to the Nevada Council for the Prevention of Domestic Violence

April 2, 2014

LAS VEGAS - Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto announced today that she appointed two new members to the Nevada Council for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. The new members are Magann Jordan, Clark County District Attorney Victim Services Unit; and Lt. Loren Napier, Las Vegas Metropolitan Department.

“I am very excited to have our new members join the council,” said Masto. “Their expertise will aide in our efforts to prevent domestic violence in Nevada.”

Recently appointed members included: Doris Diaz; Sherri Grotheer; Mariana Kihuen, Clark County Public Defender Office; Pershing County Sheriff Richard Machado; Leisa Moseley; Dr. Camille Naaktgeboren; Rev. Victoria Warren and Denise Yoximer, Executive Director, Committee to Aid Abused Women.

The mission of the Council includes providing direction to the Governor and the Legislature on statewide domestic violence policy and legislation; increasing public awareness of the magnitude and seriousness of domestic violence and sexual assault; advocating appropriate changes in law enforcement procedures and increasing access to legal and medical services to survivors in need.

As this is a statewide Council, it is their goal to be geographically balanced, culturally diverse, and represent various disciplines involved in domestic violence issues.

The Council meets quarterly in either Reno or Las Vegas and currently consists of a wide spectrum of community members, including educators, business and health care professionals, service providers, law enforcement, judiciary, prosecutors, and advocates, as well as domestic violence victims and survivors.
