Carson City, NV – Today, as part of Domestic Violence
Awareness Month, Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt announced a grant
opportunity for Nevada programs aimed at preventing violence against women.
“According to the Violence Policy Center, Nevada currently ranks fifth in the
United States for homicide rates among females murdered by males,” said Laxalt.
“These grants are used to strengthen public safety in areas of need, and provide
resources to our non-profit service providers, law enforcement and judicial
partners. As Nevada’s attorney general, I remain committed to protecting this
state’s most vulnerable populations.”
This opportunity is funded by the federal Violence Against Women Act, from
awards made to the Nevada Attorney General’s Office from the U.S. Department of
Justice Office on Violence Against Women to support programs throughout the
state. This year’s available grants to Nevada include the Services Training
Officers Prosecution (STOP) with $1,510,564 in total funds, and the Sexual
Assault Services Provider (SASP) that includes a $326,932 grant for a total of
$1,837,496.
Eligible programs must provide victim-centered intervention through
non-profit service providers, law enforcement, prosecution and courts. The
mission of these programs should be to enhance victim safety and hold offenders
accountable for intimate partner violence, including sexual assault and
stalking.
Letters of intent must be submitted by October 16, 2015. The deadline for
completed applications is October 23, 2015 by 5:00 pm. Letters of intent and
