May 27, 2016

Las Vegas, NV – Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt announced that Tawana Ann Allen, 42, of Las Vegas pleaded guilty to one count of insurance fraud, a category “D” felony. The fraud was committed between April and June 2014.

Allen submitted an insurance claim for damage to her motor vehicle caused by an alleged accident. To support her claim, Allen provided false information to the insurance company about the details of the alleged accident. As a result of her fraudulent acts, Allen was paid under her personal auto policy.

“My Office will continue to investigate and prosecute instances of insurance fraud in order to protect hard-working Nevadans from higher premiums,” said Laxalt.

Insurance fraud is punishable by up to four years of imprisonment and a fine of no more than $5,000. The sentencing hearing for Allen is scheduled for July 12, 2016 in the Eighth Judicial District Court.

This case was investigated jointly by Hallmark Insurance Company and the Office of the Nevada Attorney General’s Insurance Fraud Control Unit. This case is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Roger R. Madsen.
