Attorney General Masto Meets With Federal Mexican Attorney General Murillo Karam

Carson City, NV - Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto returned Wednesday from a trip to Mexico City, Mexico with four colleagues of the Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG) after meeting with new federal Mexican Attorney General Jesús Murillo Karam.

As current CWAG Chair pursuing an anti-transnational crime initiative, General Masto led the delegation of western Attorneys General. During the trip the group discussed issues of transnational crime including human trafficking, drug trafficking, and judicial reform.

“It is important to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with our Mexican colleagues in order to better confront our nation’s shared problems,” said Masto. “I am pleased to have met with General Murillo Karam so soon into his first term of service as Attorney General of Mexico. His willingness to meet with my colleagues and me is a key asset in our fight to curb transnational crime that affects Mexico, Nevada, and the rest of the western United States.”

The Attorneys General also visited the U.S. Embassy to meet with U.S. Ambassador
Earl Anthony Wayne, and discussed criminal banking issues with Marco Carrera Santa Cruz, General Director of Financial Education at the Mexican National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Financial Services Users.

CWAG, an organization of Attorneys General from the western U.S. committed to fostering cooperation among members in their efforts to address shared legal issues.

General Masto was joined on the trip by the Attorneys General of Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, and Utah.
