Nevada Attorney General Offers Trainings for Rural Law Enforcement and the Public

June 10, 2014

Workshops to Focus on Evolving Trends in Violence

Carson City, NV – Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto announced her office will host rural law enforcement trainings in Elko, Winnemucca, and Lovelock on June 17, 18, and 19, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The trainings will focus on improving community responses to victims of violence, specifically human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence.

The trainings are a result of AG Masto’s 2013 rural road trip and recommendations from the Attorney General’s - Domestic Violence Fatality Review Statewide Team’s first report (see recommendations #3 and #4 in the report).

Last July AG Masto traveled to Elko, Winnemucca, Lovelock, Wells, and Battle Mountain to meet with law enforcement, community leaders, and truckers about the need to patrol the I-80 corridor, a hub for sex trafficking, and stop perpetrators. The trainings this summer will build on those conversations in an effort to enhance law enforcement protocols and increase community awareness.

Though the training is geared towards law enforcement and victim advocates, it is open to the public and free of charge. The media is invited to attend.
