Las Vegas, NV – Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez
Masto today issued the following statement in recognition of Domestic Violence
Awareness Month:
"I have been a lifelong advocate of domestic violence awareness and
prevention. My office and I are committed to improving services for
victims and continuing to educate the public about this vicious crime through
funding, training, and legislative changes. While Nevada has made progress
in addressing this issue, it is still a great concern for our community and
there is more work to do.”
The Nevada Attorney General’s Office collaborated with law enforcement
statewide to launch the state’s free and anonymous automated victim information
and notification service, Victim Information Notification Everyday (VINE).
VINE provides free, confidential access to offender custody information by phone
and online. Registered users can be notified by phone or email when an
offender is released from jail or prison. Sign up by calling the toll-free
number 1-888-2NV-VINE (1-888-268-8463) or by visiting
www.vinelink.com.
Users can now access this service on their smartphones through
VINE App available in Apple App
Store or in Google Play.
In 2012, Nevada ranked sixth as the state with the highest homicide rate
among female victims killed by male offenders in single victim/single offender
incidents. According to the
Violence Policy Center Annual Report the state’s rate of 1.83 female deaths
per 100,000 topped the national average of 1.16. Nevada was ranked first
in the country for six years prior to 2012.
A limited number of free purple ribbon domestic violence awareness
pins are available. Contact Anjanette Bitsie [abitsie@g.nv.gov] to
order pins. Report domestic violence and get help by calling the
National Domestic
Violence Hotline 800-799-7233 or go to
