Attorney General Masto and Partners Launch Human Trafficking Awareness Television PSA’s

September 11, 2014

Las Vegas, NV – Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto joined by Southern Nevada Human Trafficking Task Force (SNHTTF) Director Lou Pascoe; Congo Justice Project Director, Adia Lancaster; Cox Communications’ Manager of Government Affairs John Lopez; and Clark County School District K-12 Health Coordinator, Shannon Laneve unveiled a series of public service announcements (PSA’s) aimed at promoting awareness about human trafficking.

AG Masto unveiled the ads during her keynote address at the SNHTTF’s second annual conference, co-sponsored by MGM Resorts International.

“Today we unveiled the PSA’s in front of a packed audience of our law enforcement colleagues, advocates, service providers and partners,” said AG Masto. “We hope that the videos will be a valuable tool in promoting awareness in the community about the reality of human trafficking in our communities so that we may continue to work together to protect our children and adults who fall victim to this crime. I appreciate the support of our partners who are helping to address this matter.”

Three English and three Spanish PSA’s, which were produced by Congo Justice, are available in the following formats: 30 second, 15 second, and 10 second versions.

“The PSA’s are a great example of collaboration amongst agencies and organizations,” said Pascoe. “It is important to keep reminding Nevadans that children are being trafficked in our community.”

The PSA’s will be aired on multiple Cox networks beginning the week of Sept. 15 and will run through Dec. 31.

“We are excited to join Attorney General Masto in her efforts to combat human trafficking,” said Kami Dempsey-Goudie, Executive Director with Cox Communications. “This is a very serious problem, and Cox is committed to helping with the awareness.”

CCSD will be showing the PSA's in 8th grade and high school health classes beginning this fall.

“We are happy to lend our talents to the production of the PSA’s, it is an important message to get out to the community and our mission to be a voice for those who do not have one,” said Lancaster.

To promote awareness of this form of modern day slavery, the PSA informs viewers that human trafficking can happen to anyone regardless of age, gender, and race and encourages those that see suspicious activity or incidents to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center: 1-888-3737-888 or Text "BeFree" (233733).
