Las Vegas, NV – Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez
Masto has extended the deadline for the teen statewide prescription drug abuse
prevention contest. Entries must now be received by midnight, Monday, Oct. 13.
“It is not too late for students to take advantage of this unique opportunity
to help educate their peers about the dangers of prescription drug abuse,” said
Masto. “We hope this deadline extension will encourage parents, educators, and
community members to help spread the word and encourage a young person to enter
the contest.”
The goal of the contest is to promote awareness of the dangers of
prescription drug abuse amongst Nevada teens. Students are eligible to
participate if they are enrolled in grades six through 12th, or are youth
involved with a community-based team in Nevada. The winning entry will receive
$1,000; while second-place wins $750, and third-place earns $500. Students have
a choice of which video format to choose for their entry: a 30-second uploaded
YouTube video, a 6.5 second Vine, or a15 second Instagram video.
AG Masto partnered with Governor Brian Sandoval, the Nevada Statewide
Coalition Partnership, the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health, and
the Nevada Board of Pharmacy and Solutions Recovery, Inc. to sponsor this
statewide contest.
