Pledges to Host an AG Law Enforcement Summit in First 30 days to Tackle
Crime Facing our Families and Communities
Carson City, NV – Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt
was sworn in today at a 12:30 p.m. ceremony in front of the Capitol Building in
Carson City. Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Hardesty administered the
Oath of Office to General Laxalt, along with the five other constitutional
officers. General Laxalt was joined by members of the public, as well as
his family, friends, staff and numerous other public officials.
“It is an honor to serve as Nevada’s Attorney General,” General Laxalt
stated. “My pledge to the citizens of Nevada is that I will uphold the
Oath I have taken today and provide strong, ethical leadership for our state.
We will work aggressively to fight crime, keep our communities safe and protect
our citizens from further federal encroachment on Nevada’s state sovereignty.”
General Laxalt becomes Nevada’s 33rd Attorney General and the nation’s
youngest. In office, he seeks an ambitious plan to provide a stronger,
safer and freer Nevada as our state’s top prosecutor and law enforcement
officer.
“Every jurisdiction throughout Nevada faces different safety issues and
priorities,” said Laxalt. “My office intends to hear from local officials
so we can fully comprehend and address these issues. Our office pledges to
work in collaboration with local law enforcement and prosecutors to reduce crime
and look out for the safety and security of all Nevadans.”
General Laxalt will be hosting a Law Enforcement Summit on February 5th in
Carson City, inviting Nevada sheriffs, chiefs, and district attorneys from all
17 counties to participate. The summit will focus on how Nevada law
enforcement can more quickly and effectively address emerging criminal trends
like illegal drugs, violent crime, domestic violence, child abuse, and human
trafficking.
Prior to his election, General Laxalt served as a business law attorney in
private practice. A fourth generation Nevadan, Laxalt is a former United
States Navy Judge Advocate General, and an Iraq War Veteran. In Iraq,
Laxalt assisted with the detention and prosecution of thousands of war criminals
and terrorists. For his exemplary service, he was awarded the Joint
Service Commendation Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal. General Laxalt also
served as a Navy and Federal Prosecutor and Law Professor at the United States
Naval Academy.
Laxalt graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown University and received his
J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He currently resides in Reno,
