Carson City, NV – Today, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford applauded a U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit’s order granting Nevada’s motion to intervene in a federal lawsuit regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The motion, filed earlier this month, asked the Court to allow the State of Nevada to participate in this suit that seeks to defend the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
“I applaud the Court for giving Nevadans a seat at the table in this important lawsuit,” said Attorney General Aaron Ford. “My office is stepping in to defend the Affordable Care Act on behalf of all Nevadans who rely on this program for critical access to health care. We look forward to working with other states around the country fighting to preserve accessible, affordable health care.”
“Today’s Court decision represents an important victory for our state’s ability to protect Nevadans’ access to health care,” added Governor Steve Sisolak. “My administration is making good on our promise to fight any attempts to take away the quality, affordable health care Nevadans receive through the Affordable Care Act.”
In their motion, Nevada, Colorado, Iowa and Michigan sought to join 17 other states and territories in their appeal of a Texas judge’s December ruling declaring the ACA unconstitutional. With their lawsuit, the states seek to defend the ACA to protect the infrastructure of their existing healthcare and the orderly operation of their healthcare systems, which would be thrown in disarray if the ACA were ruled unconstitutional.
