    LEGAL INTERN PROGRAM

     

      Office of the Nevada Attorney General

      The Office of the Nevada Attorney General is one of the largest legal offices in Nevada. The Office currently has 350 employees, with approximately 150 attorneys, across the state. Our attorneys handle thousands of legal matters every year, in the areas of: Appellate Advocacy, Business and Taxation, Complex Civil Litigation, Consumer Protection, Criminal Prosecution, Criminal Appeals and Habeas, Employment and Equal Rights, Government and Natural Resources, Licensing Boards and Open Government, Prison Litigation and Civil Rights, Public Policy, and Transportation and DMV Issues.         2024 Voting Rights Internship

        The Office of the Nevada Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a law student interested in election law for an unpaid Voting Rights Internship to support the OAG on matters related to the 2024 election. The Voting Rights Intern will be an integral part of the OAG's work on 2024 election-related legal matters and tasks may include, but are not limited to:   

        • Completing legal research and writing projects on election issues.
        • Assisting the OAG with election litigation.
        • Providing legal support to the OAG in administrative hearings involving the Nevada Secretary of State.
        • Conducting research, monitoring developments, and creating materials to evaluate lessons learned in the 2024 election.

        The assignments will be meaningful and give students a real opportunity to be exposed to current election legal issues. Applicants should have strong research, writing, and communication skills.

        The Voting Rights Intern will be supervised by and work directly with the OAG’s First Assistant Attorney General. If the Intern qualifies for certification by the Nevada Supreme Court for training in the practice of law under Supreme Court Rule 49.5 are encouraged to do so. Preference will be given to applicants who are available for both the summer and fall semesters (mid-May to December). The Voting Rights Intern may complete the internship in-person, remotely, or via hybrid schedule.

        Special Requirements 

        • Only United States citizens or those legally authorized to work in the U.S. are eligible to apply.
        • A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected intern.

          Legal Internship

          The Office of the Nevada Attorney General is seeking up to twelve (12) unpaid law student interns for our Carson City, Reno, and Las Vegas offices each Fall, Spring, and Summer. Summer internships will run during the period of May – July, Fall externships will run August – November, and Spring externships will run January – April. Interns work directly with Deputy Attorney Generals on substantive legal matters. Projects may include researching and writing memorandums, legal briefs, motions, interrogatories, assisting with preparation for trial, witness interviews, document organization, and other tasks as assigned by a supervisor. Those interns who qualify for certification by the Nevada Supreme Court for training in the practice of law under Supreme Court Rule 49.5 are encouraged to do so. The assignments will be meaningful and give students a real opportunity to be exposed to current legal issues. Interns may also have an opportunity to visit the courts and observe court hearings and mediations under the supervision of a Deputy Attorney General. Applicants should have strong research and writing skills.
