Nevada Council for the Prevention of Domestic Violence

The Nevada Council for the Prevention of Domestic Violence was established in 1995 by Former Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa as an advisory committee on domestic violence issues. In 2005, the 73rd Session of Nevada Legislature officially established the Council with the passage of Assembly Bill 219, see NRS 228.480. Assembly Bill 219 placed the Council within the Office of the Attorney General and set forth the duties of the Council and composition of its members.

    The Council is chaired by the Attorney General. Membership is limited to no more than 30 people from various geographic regions of the state. Currently the Council has members representing law enforcement, the judiciary, prosecution, victim services, health care, education, and domestic violence survivors.

      The purpose of the Council is to prevent and eliminate domestic violence by:

      1. Increasing awareness of the existence and unacceptability of domestic violence;
      2. Making recommendations for any necessary legislation relating to domestic violence to the Office of the Attorney General; and
      3. Providing financial support to programs for the prevention of domestic violence in the State.
