In an effort to combat the abuse of prescription drugs, Nevada Governor Brian
Sandoval and former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto launched a video
contest aimed at fighting prescription drug abuse and overdose deaths for Nevada
middle and high school students. The contest, which requires a video to be
uploaded through YouTube, Instagram, or VINE, creates a unique opportunity for
students to use social media to promote awareness about prescription drug abuse,
and encourage their peers to stay away from abusing prescription drugs.
About the Contest:
The contest, which was announced on September 2, 2014, accepted submissions
until October 13, 2014. Winners were announced on November 19, 2014. The
contest required students to produce an original video and upload it to YouTube,
Instagram, or Vine. Videos needed to address the dangers of prescription drug
abuse and be formatted as follows:
- YouTube: Max. length 30 seconds
- Instagram: Max. length 15 seconds

Max. length 6.5 seconds
Prizes:
Winners will receive the following prizes:
- First Place: $1000
- Second Place: $750
- Third Place: $500
First place winners from each category will also be recognized at a special
event at the Governor’s Mansion.
