What is the Mission of the MFU?


The mission of the Nevada Mortgage Fraud Unit (MFU) is to serve Nevadans through prosecution of those who manipulate the laws, rules and regulations of the mortgage industry in order to cheat unsuspecting property owners out of their money and property. Upon receiving a citizen's complaint, MFU investigates and prosecutes fraud by providers of services, such as foreclosure rescue fraud, foreclosure fraud, mortgage modification fraud, interest reduction fraud, debt forgiveness fraud or any other abuse of the mortgage industry.

    The MFU strives to accomplish its mission through the pursuit of the following goals:

    • To effectively investigate mortgage fraudsters who commit fraudulent and illegal acts in connection with fraud by providers of services such as foreclosure rescue fraud, foreclosure fraud, mortgage modification fraud, interest reduction fraud, debt forgiveness fraud or any other abuse of the mortgage industry.
    • To effectively prosecute mortgage fraudsters who commit fraudulent and illegal acts in connection with fraud by providers of services such as foreclosure rescue fraud, foreclosure fraud, mortgage modification fraud, interest reduction fraud, debt forgiveness fraud or any other abuse of the mortgage industry.
    • To work efficiently with all other government entities, both state and federal, that work the regulatory or enforcement side of the mortgage industry.
