The attorneys in the Division of Business and Taxation represent the agencies under the umbrella of the Department of Business and Industry, the Department of Taxation.
The Department of Business and Industry agencies represented include the Division of Real Estate, Division of Mortgage Lending, Division of Insurance, Financial Institutions Division, the Taxicab Authority, Transportation Services Authority, Labor Commission, Manufactured Housing, Attorney for Injured Workers, Athletic Commission, Dairy Commission, Consumer Affairs, Housing Division, and Industrial Relations, Employee Management Relations Board and the Office of Business Finance and Planning.
Attorneys representing the Department of Taxation participate in administrative proceedings regarding property tax, sales and use tax, the net proceeds of mines tax, and various other excise taxes. Attorneys also draft advisory opinions on a wide variety of issues for the Department of Taxation.
In addition to providing day-to-day legal counsel to clients, attorneys prosecute disciplinary cases against licensees, advise Boards and Commission regarding the Open Meeting Law and assist in the regulatory rule-making process.
