Kroger (Smith's) and Albertsons (Albertsons, Safeway, and Vons) Merger Survey
On October 14, 2022, grocery store companies Kroger and Albertsons announced a definitive $24.6 billion merger agreement. In Nevada, Kroger is the parent company of Smith's grocery stores, and Albertsons is the parent company of Albertsons, Safeway, and Vons grocery stores. The merger may have potential impacts on grocery stores, consumers, employees, and others in the State of Nevada as well as nationwide. The companies expect to finalize the merger in early 2024, if it is approved by state and federal regulators. The Nevada Attorney General's Office, pursuant to its authority under Nevada law, is reviewing this proposed merger to ensure it is proper, does not unfairly disrupt competition, and is fair to local grocery stores, consumers, employees, and others.
Nevada Attorney General, Aaron D. Ford, is seeking public comment and consumer opinion on the merger. Accordingly, the Nevada Attorney General's Office has developed a brief survey to help evaluate the potential impacts of the merger on Nevadans. The survey is being provided as an opportunity for you to tell us what you think about the proposed merger of Kroger (Smith's) and Albertsons (Albertsons, Safeway, and Vons).
