WHO: Attorney General Aaron D.
Ford.
WHAT: May 25th
marks the one-year anniversary of the killing of George Floyd. AG Ford will be
holding this press conference to commemorate his passing and discuss the
progress that has been made with regard to police reform and community
response. The press conference will also highlight two of AG Ford’s bills, Assembly
Bill (AB) 58 and Senate Bill (SB) 50.
WHEN: The press conference
will be held on May 25th at 12:00 PST.
WHERE:The press conference
will be held on the front steps of the Carson City Attorney General’s Office,
weather permitting. The office is located at 100 N. Carson Street.
DETAILS: Assembly Bill 58 will offer
more transparency and accountability regarding Nevada’s law enforcement
agencies. The bill gives the Attorney General’s Office the authority to conduct
pattern-or-practice investigations and work with police agencies to reform
patterns of unlawful policing.
Senate Bill 50 will create a framework that drastically limits no-knock
warrants and ensures they are used safely and only when absolutely necessary.
As we have seen over recent years, no-knock warrants are becoming an increasing
issue, with their use often resulting in injury or death.
