Bureau of Consumer Protection

Under the direction of the Attorney General and Consumer Advocate, the Bureau of Consumer Protection (BCP) enforces various consumer protection statutes, in particular deceptive trade and antitrust laws, through the filing of lawsuits on behalf of the State of Nevada and the public good.

Bureau of Criminal Justice

The Bureau of Criminal Justice is comprised of:

  • Insurance Fraud
  • Mortgage Fraud
  • Workers' Compensation Fraud
  • Special Prosecutions for Consumer Protection and Fraud
  • Organized Retail Crime Unit
  • Public Integrity Unit: Prosecutes criminal offenses committed by elected state officers or employees in the course of their duties or related to their positions and secondarily prosecutes criminal offenses committed by county officers or employees. (NRS 228.175, 228.177) The Unit also investigates and prosecutes crimes referred by the District Attorneys' Offices due to conflict of interest. State employees who report public integrity violations are entitled to protection under NRS 281.611 - 281.671.     • Prosecution Unit of Crimes Against Older Persons: Prosecutes crimes of abuse, neglect, exploitation or isolation of an older person. (NRS 228.250 et. seq.)
    • Missing Children's Unit: Investigates, assists in the recovery of and prosecutes cases involving kidnapped, abducted and missing children. (NRS 432.157 et. seq.)

    Bureau of Governmental Affairs

    Six separate divisions make up the Bureau of Government Affairs: Government and Natural Resources, Gaming, Business and Taxation, Boards and Licensing, Health and Human Services, and Transportation.

    The office of the Nevada Attorney General is governed by Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 228. This statute lays out our office organization as well as the authority our office maintains to prosecute certain crimes.
