According to Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 228.150, the Attorney General is responsible for providing formal legal opinions to public officials specified within the law, including state elected officials, state cabinet-level officials, the heads of state boards and commissions, and district attorneys and city attorneys. Only these officials can request a formal Attorney General Opinion. These opinions are intended for use by public officials in the performance of their duties, but they are issued for publication so that they can be cited for their persuasive authority in court cases and other legal proceedings. The opinions cover a broad range of topics pertaining to government operations.
